During very early pre-production on skate, my artistic assignment was to explore what the game could look like; while game designers were tasked with ‘finding the fun’, I was figuring out what ‘fun looked like’. Mood boards and visual inspiration progressed to rapid iteration, which led to more fully formed UI look and feel proposals.
I was also moved into a UX role for much of my time on skate, and while I cannot share examples of this work here, I learned to create interactive prototypes in Figma and specify limitations for notifications and affordances during gameplay to encourage the state of ‘flow’ we wanted players to experience.
