Battle for Neighborville

Timeline: From July 2017 to October 2020

Plants vs Zombies: Battle for Neighborville was the third game in the Garden Warfare series, and after helping the second game ship DLC, I was overjoyed to work on Neighborville from the start. Pre-production look-and-feel direction was fast tracked, and I was able to take some informed steps to improve on an established IP’s UI art. As we developed an entire UI from scratch, it allowed us to provide more than a ‘new coat of paint’ and introduce a brighter palette, fresh typography, and opportunities to break out of the boxes-within-boxes aesthetic of the game that preceded it. Using Frostbite allowed everyone on the UI art team to directly implement art and animations in the game engine, granting a rewarding level of creative control over how the game’s UI could be expressed. PvZ still stands as the most fun and most rewarding project of my career.
